Lucy Allan championed social mobility and was a Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on social mobility in the 2015-17 Parliament.
One of the lines of enquiry Lucy worked on in 2016 was improving access to leading professions including medicine.
Lucy Allan said:
"Too many young people in Telford do not have the opportunities to access leading professions such as Medicine and Journalism. We have excellent schools with fantastic teachers who inspire our young people. But too often they can face hurdles and obstacles that young people from more advantaged backgrounds do not face. When I spoke out about this in May 2016, I was surprised to find that representatives of both professions did not realise there were added difficulties and challenges for young people from less affluent backgrounds. Every young person should be able to go as far as their talents will take them no matter what their background. There is much more work to be done to ensure that top professions are opened up to all. I am glad to have championed this cause in the last Parliament while I was an MP."
