Telford MP, Lucy Allan has welcomed today’s Queen Speech praising it for setting out an agenda that will tackle some of the deepest social problems, help break down barriers to opportunity and improve life chances.
Twenty one bills were announced in the Speech including bills on prison reform, children and social work and education.
Commenting on the Speech, Lucy Allan MP said: “The bills announced in today’s speech will help break down barriers to opportunity that too many people still face.
“Like the Prime Minister I am keen to see our society transformed and opportunities offered to all. I am particularly pleased to see a focus on young people in care, which is long overdue. There was also an emphasis on tackling poverty and causes of deprivation. In Telford we have pockets of severe deprivation which we cannot ignore. These bills once law have the potential to make a real difference to the opportunities of thousands of people locally.
“There was also positive news for Telford businesses from the announcement of a Digital Economy Bill through to a Local Growth and Jobs Bill.”
