Lucy Allan MP has renewed calls to bring the proposed new Critical Care Unit to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
The Future Fit programme has today announced that they have reduced the options for the location of the new Unit to be either at Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital or at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The Telford MP has long been calling for the new site to come to the Princess Royal Hospital, and it formed part of her six-point 'Plan for Telford'.
Lucy Allan MP said: “I’m pleased that the Future Fit programme has decided not to build a brand new site. It makes more sense to build the new Critical Care Unit on an existing site where it can be supported by existing facilities.
“It’s essential that the new Critical Care Unit comes to Telford. The new Women and Childrens’ Unit opened here a year ago and it makes sense to build the new Critical Care Unit on the same site, creating a ‘Super Hospital’
.
“Telford is the fastest growing town in the West Midlands and has a huge healthcare need. It also has good road connections to the rest of the county, so it is logical to build this Critical Care Unit here.
“Regardless of where the new unit is located, both Telford and Shrewsbury will have walk-in ‘Urgent Care’ centres.
“The Critical Care Unit will be for the most serious, life-threatening cases where rapid care by specialists is required, like major road accidents, and critical injuries.
“I welcome this step forward in this process and continuing to work with the local NHS Trust on this issue.”
