Telford MP, Lucy Allan has welcomed the announcement from John Campion, Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police, that WM Police will be introducing bodycams as soon as possible.
Lucy recently raised the use of bodycams with the government’s Minister for Police after the tragic death of Dalian Atkinson.
A University of Cambridge study found that complaints against police dropped 93% when officers were wearing visible body worn cameras.
Commenting on the announcement, Lucy Allan MP said: “I am pleased that West Mercia Police will be rolling out bodycams as soon as possible.
“These cameras benefit both the police and the public by capturing events as they unfold.
“I am strongly in favour of the use of bodycams. their use introduces an extra layer of accountability to police whilst also encouraging the public to avoid trouble as their actions are recorded.”
