Telford MP Lucy Allan has welcomed the news from EE that 4G has been introduced to Ironbridge and Jackfield.
With new equipment in place, EE customers will be able to experience faster internet and an increase in mobile coverage in area that can suffer from patchy mobile signal.
Lucy has campaigned for better digital links in Telford to give residents and businesses faster and more reliable mobile and internet signal.
Commenting on the switch on, Lucy said: “EE’s 4G switch on is great news for those living and visiting Ironbridge who use the EE network.
“Improving digital connections is essential for Telford’s growth, with improved connections in those areas with poor signal being particularly welcomed.
“Improved mobile infrastructure is particularly important in a tourist hotspot like Ironbridge as tourists will be able to more easily share content online that shows our incredible world heritage site.”
Ward Councillor for Ironbridge Gorge, Cllr Nicola Lowery added: Mobile connectivity has long been an issue for many residents, businesses and visitors in the Gorge. It is greatly encouraging that one of the UK’s largest mobile telecomms provider has decided to upgrade their service and has ambitious plans to provide the most reliable and fastest telecommunications network. This will hopefully improve the speed and mobile coverage to EE customers within Ironbridge and encourage further telecommunications companies to invest in upgrading their coverage and speeds.
"As a major tourist destination there is a clear need provide quicker access to online and social media platforms to enable people to unlock the potential and explore what we have to offer within the Wold Heritage Site as well as sharing their experiences illustrating what the Gorge has to offer."
