Telford MP, Lucy Allan has met with Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to make Telford’s case for funding in the next round of national Growth Deal allocations.
The Growth Fund is a £1.8 billion pool of funds available to the 39 Local Enterprise Partnerships across the country to boost job creation and home building.
The Marches LEP, of which Telford is part, is seeking to secure funding for the Enterprise Telford Advanced Manufacturing Corridor, a project that is estimated will create 1,250 homes and 1,650 full time equivalent jobs.
In addition to meeting with Secretary of State today, Lucy has already written to him and raised this issue on the floor of the House of Commons in a debate on the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Speaking after the meeting, Lucy Allan MP, said: “The minister recognises the value that Telford adds to business, jobs growth in the West Midlands.
“This project would make a real difference to Telford and it is for this reason I sought a meeting out one to one in Parliament to lobby for this bid. It is particularly important to do this when the number of proposals submitted will far outweigh the funding available.
“As Telford’s MP it's important to be always making the case for our town. Projects like Enterprise Telford are vital to the long term growth of Telford and will make a big difference to our future prosperity.”
The Government will announce the successful Growth Fund bids around the Autumn Statement.
