Telford MP, Lucy Allan has met with campaigners from the organisations behind the annual national carers week campaign which runs this year from 6th June to 12 June.
Carers’ week is organised by a number of charitable and voluntary organisations to help highlight the often unseen role that carers play in benefiting wider society. It is estimated that there are around 6.5 million people who undertake caring responsibilities with 3 in 4 carers feeling that their caring role isn’t understood or valued by their community.
At a drop in event held today at Westminster Lucy Allan MP was able to hear from representatives and carers from a number of organisations including MacMillan, Age UK and MS Society.
Speaking after the event, Lucy said: “It is always inspiring to hear the personal experiences carers face looking after a loved one and learning of the challenges people face in caring for their loved ones.
“Being a carer is hugely demanding and for many it is 24/7. It involves putting someone else’s needs before your own to help them lead their lives. We should all appreciate the incredible work that carers put in.
“In Telford I’ve been fortunate to meet carers and caring organisations on many occasions and I am always impressed with the dedication they show.”
