Telford MP, Lucy Allan is looking forward to attending Abraham Darby Academy’s Auction night in aid of the school’s rugby team’s “Playing with Pride” tour of South Africa in 2017.
The auction which takes place this Friday (8th July) has had lots donated by local businesses and people including former pupil and WBC Super Middleweight World champion Richie Woodhall. In total there are 48 lots including hotel stays, signed rugby merchandise and restaurant meals.
Twenty two pupils are working towards raising a total of £20,000 that will enable them to play rugby against 3 top South African sides and experience some of the best of what South Africa has to offer including safari and swimming with sharks.
Speaking about the auction, Lucy Allan MP said: “I’m looking forward to supporting Abraham Darby’s fund-raising auction for the school’s rugby team trip to South Africa.
“Abraham Darby Academy is a shining example of the aspiration that exists in Telford. This tour offers those taking part a once in a lifetime opportunity and the hard-work they are putting in to achieve it shows a determination that will help throughout life.
“It is also important to recognise all those who have donated lots to the auction. The generosity shown by the local community in aiding the pupils turn dreams to reality is to be applauded.
