Telford MP, Lucy Allan was delighted to be able to attend yesterday’s lighting of Telford’s beacon to celebrate HM the Queen’s 90th Birthday.
The celebration took place on the Southwater One Balcony and was led by the excellent Abraham Darby Academy Showband who played songs including Happy Birthday, God Save the Queen and the Dam Busters March.
At approximately 1930, Council Leader Cllr Kuldip Sahota lit the beacon with military dignitaries in attendance. At the same time Shropshire’s Vice Lord Lieutenant, Colonel Edmund Thewlis OBE DL led the gathered crowd in signing happy birthday. Telford and Wrekin Mayor, Cllr Leon Murray was also in attendance greeting guests.
Commenting on the event Lucy said: “It was great to mark the Queen’s birthday in this manner and the Abraham Derby Academy Showband provided the perfect sound track to the event. The Queen has dedicated herself to serving the country and I’m pleased that Telford was able to play a part in the national celebrations taking place.”
