Lucy Allan, Telford’s Parliamentary Candidate, today raised the issue of poor broadband in parts of Telford with Culture Secretary Sajid Javid.
Lucy raised local concerns about lack of broadband and mobile phone signal provision with the Minister, who visited the International Centre and the new Southwater development
Lucy said: “We had a very productive discussion about improving Telford’s connectivity.
“Telford & Wrekin Council are now working with the Government to get Telford fast broadband, having previously turned down £1.42million of Government funding.
“Without fast broadband it is nearly impossible to run your own business or develop an existing one, which has really affected businesses in some areas, like Ironbridge and Lawley.”
“The Shropshire Star has done a great job of raising local concerns about mobile phone signals in the area and I was keen to raise these issues with the Minister directly.
“He understands how critical better connectivity is to business and I will be working with him to ensure that Telford gets better broadband and mobile signal.
“I have been fighting hard for improved connectivity in Telford for over a year now and I’m pleased to see progress being made, but I will continue to fight to ensure that the planned boost comes to fruition.”
