Lucy Allan MP has praised a community cleanup of Dawley Bank Cemetery, which has seen historic graves restored and footpaths cleared.
The community clean-ups, which took place on the 18th and 25th September, saw overgrown graves cleared up.
Lucy Allan MP said: “It was great to see the community come together to clean up the cemetery.
“Dawley Baptist Church has been doing its best over the years to maintain the ground, and it has a small stipend for maintenance of the cemetery, so now that the worst of the growth is cleaned up it will be easier for them to keep on top of it.
“It is fantastic that people will inspire each other to do things for themselves and their community, rather than sit back and wait for the state to do it. Thanks so much to everyone that took part.”
Tools at the cleanup were provided by Sutton Hill Community Centre and Dawley Christian Centre.
Southall School has offered to perform regular maintenance at the cemetery as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme.
