Lucy Allan MP asks about NHS accountability and restarting elective surgery

Tuesday, 14 June, 2022

Today at Health Questions, Lucy asked the Secretary of State for Health about the accountability of NHS leadership to their patients.

At the time of writing, elective orthopaedic surgery at the Princess Royal Hospital still had not restarted and nor had patients been given dates for their procedures.

Lucy asked the Health Secretary to ensure that NHS leadership can be held accountable to its patients. The Messenger Review of health and social care leadership has identified changes that will improve accountability and improve culture within the NHS, whilst making it more responsive to the concerns of patients waiting for surgery.

The Health Secretary confirmed to Lucy that orthopaedic surgery will be restarted at the Princess Royal from 20th June 2022.

You can watch Lucy’s question and the Secretary of State’s response above.
