Local Sikhs recently held a parade through Telford to mark the harvest festival Vaisakhi.
The parade walked from the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara temple in Hadley to the Guru Nanak Darbur Gurdwara temple in Oakengates where people from across the West Midlands came together to socialise, share food and celebrate cultural traditions.
Lucy Allan, who joined in with the parade, said: “It was a fantastic day. Telford was full of a colour and vibrancy. Everyone was friendly and warm. I was invited into the Gurdwara for a delicious lunch, and afterwards people in the street offered me traditional sweets and drinks. It was wonderful.”
The Sikh community also donated a food collection to the Telford Food Bank and gave them £480 credit at Green Fields Farm Shop.
Lucy said: “A central tenet of the Sikh faith is to make a contribution to the community; the donations to the food bank are a brilliant example of that ethos of selflessness and giving.”
