Telford vaccination update: 22nd February 2021

NHS

At close of business on Thursday 18th February, 148,547 doses of vaccine have been administered across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

In Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, first doses have now been given to:

- 91% of care home residents
- 93% of over 80s
- 100% of 75-79s
- 96.97% of 70-74s
- 79.58% of 65-69s
- 26.3% of 60-64s

Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are now ahead of much of the rest of the Midlands in their rollout. Lucy Allan MP has been informed that the local CCG has run out of patients to contact for a vaccine within the current categories. Lucy has urged the CCG in no uncertain terms to continue vaccinating the next groups. Across the country, other CCGs have done this and Lucy feels strongly that Telford & Wrekin CCG should do the same.

Lucy and the other Shropshire MPs have also written to the vaccines minister to request that the CCG is instructed to continue rolling out vaccinations to the next groups without delay to ensure that as many people can be vaccinated as possible in the window before second doses begin in mid-March.

Lucy Allan MP said:

"I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this great national success, from the scientists to the volunteers, all of whom have helped to protect our community."

"I am aware that the last two weeks have seen far fewer people being vaccinated at the Telford International Centre than earlier in the roll out. It is vital that steps are taken to use the available vaccines and facilities to continue working through the vaccination groups.

It has been brought to my attention that the Council feels the current bottleneck can be easily rectified by allowing the local authority to take over the national booking system. Given that the system is used everywhere and other CCGs are inviting people are now vaccinating groups 6 and 7, it would appear that the national booking system is not the cause of the slow down, but rather a different interpretation of the rules.

"I meet regularly with the local CCG, Shropshire MPs, the Secretary of State for Health and the Minister for Vaccinations, and have raised these local issues directly. I will continue to encourage the local CCG to expedite its offers to people in the next priority groups."
