To mark International Women’s Day on 8 March Telford sixth former Chloe Forrester is to visit Parliament for a day long workshop themed around women’s rights after receiving an invite from Telford MP, Lucy Allan.
Chloe is currently studying for ‘A’ levels in English Literature, History, Law and Politics at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and is hoping to go to the University of Glasgow afterwards.
After writing to Lucy Allan MP about shadowing her at Parliament, Lucy invited Chloe to attend the day long Parliamentary workshop. The packed day will amongst other things see the girls attending get to watch the Women and Equalities Select Committee in action, receive a tour of 10 Downing Street and take part in a Q and A session with a cross party group of prominent female Parliamentarians.
Commenting on her visit, Chloe said: “I’m really looking forward to visiting Parliament and taking part in all the events planned. The Downing Street tour promises to be really insightful and I am eager to hear from the female Parliamentarians in the afternoon.”
Commenting on Chloe’s visit, Lucy Allan MP, said: “I’m looking forward to welcoming Chloe to Parliament after receiving a well thought out and considered email from her asking to shadow me. I hope this unique opportunity will prove be both enjoyable and inspiring.
“International Women’s Day has been marked since 1911 and has its origins in equal rights and particularly women’s suffrage, themes that are as relevant today as they were over 100 years ago. With an ancestor who was a suffragette this is a cause close to my heart.”
