Lucy Allan MP has welcomed news of a record low in unemployment in Telford according to figures released today.
The number of people who claim Job seekers allowance has fallen to 1161 which is a record low.
This is down from a high of 3238 people in February 2010, showing the Government’s economic plan is succeeding in decreasing unemployment levels.
Lucy Allan MP said: “It is fantastic to know that there has been a decrease in unemployment levels in Telford. With more people in paid work it will bring a boost to the economy and is truly inspirational to see.”
The amount of unemployed 18-24 year olds has also hit a record low with just 300 unemployed. This is down from 1100 young people in February 2010.
About this, Lucy said: “The decrease in the number of unemployed young people is brilliant to hear about.
“Getting young people into work is one of my top priorities. There is a lot of support in Telford to help get young people into work or education.
“Earlier this year I visited Juniper training with Boris Johnson. They help young people gain essential workplace skills and help them into employment.
“These figures are brilliant news for Telford.”
