Telford and Wrekin’s MPs, Lucy Allan and Mark Pritchard have met with the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sajid Javid MP, to discuss the future of the Land Registry.
The Land Registry is a major employer in Telford with around 300 specialist staff based at their Hall Park Way office near the town centre.
Mark and Lucy requested the meeting after the government announced plans to sell the Land Registry operations earlier in the year. The Land Registry has previously been valued at around £1.2 billion.
During the meeting the Business Secretary set out the reasoning behind the planned sale and confirmed that although the consultation has closed no decision has yet been taken as to the future structure and a number of options exist. The business is set to evolve and transform over time to ensure it remains a strong successful operation. There are no preferred bidders nor any restriction on the pool of potential bidders.
Speaking after the meeting Telford MP, Lucy Allan and Wrekin MP, Mark Pritchard said: “We are grateful that the Business Secretary took the time to meet with us to discuss this important issue for Telford. It is clear that there is no reason for the business to relocate should a change in ownership occur.
“The Secretary of State was very open with us and assured us that as we will be kept fully informed of developments regarding this issue.”
Mark Pritchard MP, said: “Keeping jobs in Telford and Wrekin is a top priority. Retaining these skilled jobs is a key part of Telford and Wrekin being able to attract new businesses and investors.”
Lucy Allan MP, added: “Telford is an attractive place to live and work. We are seeing new skilled jobs come to Telford. Both Mark and I are committed to seeing this trend continue.”
