Over the weekend, a water pipe burst in Telford in the TF3 affecting thousands of residents in TF3, TF4, TF7 and TF8.
I have been informed by Severn Trent that they have contacted the most vulnerable residents who might be less able to get out to the shops to buy water or who might need water to live, to see if they need them to deliver bottled water directly to them.
There are some complications with the work, as the pipe is next to a high pressure gas main but they should be able to get the majority of customers back on supply today without having to carry out a full repair.
Severn Trent have 120,000 litres of free bottled water available at Tesco in Madeley, TF7 5AB and at the Museum of the Gorge car park in Ironbridge, TF8 7DQ. They have also set up a water bowser at the Tesco in Madeley, where they are providing water in a special container, so there is no need for residents to bring their own.
I have also been informed that the repair work has been particularly difficult as the 21-inch pipe is very deep underground and before they could start to dig, they had to cut back nearby trees. They have also had to close the southbound slip road from the A442 Queensway to the A442 Brockton Way to allow the engineers to work safely. I would urge drivers to avoid the area if at all possible at this time.
Severn Trent are using 25 tankers to inject water directly into the network which should return water to a number of customers today.
I have been assured that Severn Trent are doing everything possible to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.
