Telford MP, Lucy Allan has co-signed a letter from the 2015 Conservative Party intake of MPs calling for a clean campaign on the EU referendum.
The letter reads:
We, the undersigned of 2015 intake of Conservative Member of Parliament, representing 22% of the Parliamentary Party, are proud to belong to a party which has delivered a referendum on our continuing membership of the European Union. We believe it is time that the people of Britain should make that decision for themselves.
We make three points:
1. That we believe that the campaign should be conducted in a manner respectful of the sincerely held views on all sides, and free from personal attack;
2. We believe that it is very much in the interest of Britain that, following the referendum, the decision of the British people is respected by all sides, so that we can continue to press on with delivering on our election promises in Government, which the British people elected us to do;
3. We remain committed to ensuring that the Conservative Party will promote economic stability, reform of our welfare system and protect the security of our country.
Commenting on signing the letter, Lucy said: "I support the PM in trying to achieve the best outcome for Britain during the current re negotiations. However, without fundamental change, I favour leaving the EU.
"Although the referendum is set to feature heavily this year, it is important that Parliament and the Government continue to work hard for the British
public.
"I am pleased to have put my name to this letter alongside my 2015 intake colleagues calling for respectful debate on both sides. This a decision for the British people and we must all respect the outcome.
