Telford MP, Lucy Allan has met with WASPI campaigners after women from across the country convened on Parliament, to lobby their MPs to push for transitional arrangements in the equalising of the state pension age.
Over a thousand campaigners came to Parliament with a choir of around 200 signing the WASPI anthem.
After the march, and meeting MPs in Parliament's Central Lobby, a handful of WASPI campaigners met with Pensions minister, Baroness Altman. They raised their case for the implementation of transitional arrangements for those affected by the equalisation of the state pension age.
Speaking after meeting Telford’s WASPI campaigners, Lucy Allan MP said: “As a member of the WASPI All Party Parliamentary Group I was pleased to meet with more Telford constituents having met with with several groups of women affected back in May.
“Every WASPI campaigner that I speak to has their own personal story but often with similar themes. Lots of the women campaigning today joined the workforce when the rights and employment protection people enjoy today didn’t exist. In addition the opportunity for higher education and professional progression simply did not exist for many women born in the 1950s.
“350 women in Telford alone have signed the WASPI petition and as their MP it is important that I speak up for them in Parliament.”
