Lucy Allan MP donates 10% of salary to local charities.
Before the General Election in May 2015 Lucy committed to donating 10% of her income as an MP to Telford charities. Following her election she put in place a Charities Aid Foundation 'giving scheme' to benefit four Telford charities which she had supported before she was elected. The donation totals 10% of her annual income as an MP split between four charities.
Lucy has choosen Telford Mind, Stay Telford, Telford Street Pastors and Hilbrae Rescue Kennels to donate to in 2015/16. Lucy is planning to choose four different charities each year. In her election contract she stated that she would continue to support good causes as she wanted to encourage volunteering in the Town.
Lucy Allan said: "Telford is full of people working hard for their community. In the last few years I have met so many wonderful and inspiring people who are changing lives and giving their time and energy so generously to others. Everywhere I look people are coming together to bring about the change that they want to see. I have been really inspired."
Lucy has volunteered for different organisations at various times in her life and in different ways. From joining informal clean ups, to organising self help support groups, to being a Trustee of charity. Lucy has always wanted to get involved; it was this desire to help make change happen that led her to getting involved in politics.
"I often get asked why I became an MP. For me it has always been about making things happen and realising that you can change things for the better. You don't have to wait for someone else to do it. That is what so many people in Telford are doing every day. I want to pay tribute to that spirit."
