Telford MP Lucy Allan is readying herself and her staff for the Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Challenge, with three year 6 pupils from Old Park Primary School, Malinslee set to come and take over her Telford office for the day on 20th November.
The Children Commissioner’s Takeover Challenge is a national event that sees children and young people welcomed into a wide variety of working environments to take over adults roles for the day. The young people taking part gain a valuable insight into decision making processes as well as being able to have their voice heard. Last year more than 44,000 children took part with over 1,100 organisations involved.
The Children taking over Lucy’s office will get to join in and experience what it is like to work in a busy MP’s office by taking on some of the tasks that Lucy Allan MP and her staff deal with on a day-to-day basis.
Commenting on the Takeover Challenge, Lucy Allan MP said: “I’m looking forward to the children of Old Park Primary School taking over my office for the day and learning what goes on in a busy MP’s office.
“The children coming here all wrote lovely letters setting out the reasons why they would like to come here and it was very pleasing to see how engaged and interested the children are in what goes on in their local MP’s office.
“Not only does the takeover challenge give unique opportunities for children in this instance it also affords them a front row seat of how Parliament, and at a wider level democracy, operates at a local level.”
