Telford MP, Lucy Allan is backing Home Secretary Theresa May in the Conservative leadership election.
Attending Theresa May’s launch event at Royal United Services Institute in London, Lucy heard how Theresa plans to make Britain work for everyone. In her speech Theresa set out how she wants to tackle the injustices that British people face such as being born into poverty means an average life expectancy 9 years shorter than others, or how women still earn less than men.
Theresa also set out the seriousness that she will bring to the job of being Prime Minister stating that what government does isn’t a game and that decisions have real consequences for people’s lives.
Speaking after the event, Lucy Allan MP said: “We are fortunate to have an excellent selection of candidates to choose from for our next leader.
“I will be supporting Theresa May in the leadership contest. In my opinion she is the candidate most able to offer the stability and strong leadership that the UK needs. As someone who has been at the heart of government for the past six years, and in one of the toughest roles, Theresa has demonstrated the attributes needed to be Prime Minister.
“Negotiating our exit from the EU will be the biggest task facing the next Prime Minister and Theresa is the candidate that I feel will be able to secure the best deal possible for the UK. In addition to this, her pledge to create a ‘Brexit’ department with a cabinet level minister demonstrates her commitment to achieving this.”
