Closing the Conservative Party Conference, Theresa May set out her dream for Britain which focused on the new generation and building a better future.
In her speech, the Prime Minister unveiled her key policies which the government will focus on in the coming months.
Amongst her policies were measures which will benefit people in Telford.
There was a commitment to an additional £2 billion into affordable housing, raising the total affordable housing budget to £9 billion. The Prime Minister also announced that legislation will be brought forward to place a cap on energy prices as well as a commitment to extend free schools and build an extra 100 every year until 2022.
University students in Telford will also be pleased that the government will review university funding and student loans and will freeze tuition fees at the current rates.
Speaking after the Prime Minister gave her speech Lucy Allan said:
“I am delighted that despite some very real challenges, the Prime Minister was able to set out key policies which will benefit my constituents.
“I particularly welcome the government’s investment in social housing and its commitment to build more homes for those on the lowest incomes.
“I pleased to see that the government will be bringing forward measures to tackle unfair energy prices. We know that many elderly people in Telford are paying more than they should be, just for being loyal customers. This policy will help bring that to an end.
“I was also pleased to hear the Prime Minister’s comments about free schools. I know that Thomas Telford has plans for a free school and I will certainly be following this up with the Education Secretary.
“Telford is a town of aspiration where people work hard to build a better future for them and their families. I am glad that the government shares this vision and is stepping up to help the next generation get on in life."
