Telford MP, Lucy Allan, has written to the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, to ask him to call in the Future Fit decision for review in an effort to overturn the plan. She has also invited Matt Hancock to come to Telford to discuss the impact of this decision on the local community.
To demonstrate the cross party opposition to the plan, and the full support of local councillors, the MP has asked Telford & Wrekin council leader to sign a joint letter to the Health Secretary. Both letters can be seen below.
Lucy Allan said:
“Following the Future Fit decision that was made last night, I have written to the Health Secretary to ask him to call in this decision for review and to invite him to Telford at the earliest opportunity.
“All the borough’s elected representatives are united in opposing this decision. It’s important that we work together to get it overturned. We must not allow party politics to distract from the campaign to overturn the decision the table. The plan fails our community. We have a much stronger voice if we work together on this vital issue.
“The needs of Telford & Wrekin residents have been neglected in the proposals that have been agreed. Throughout the 5 year process, management and local decision makers have not engaged with the local perspective or the impact that the changes would make. The failure to engage with the Telford perspective or the needs of our community has fatally undermined this project.
“This flawed plan has been allocated £312m of taxpayers' money. I am confident the Health Secretary will look very carefully at what has been going on and that there will be proper accountability and scrutiny of this decision which will lead to it being overturned.”
