Ketley Boys Brigade celebrate their centenary in style
The 1st Ketley Boys Brigade are marking the 100th anniversary of the Junior Section by carrying out 100 challenges throughout 2017.
Included in the list of challenges was: meet the local MP, hold a party, bake the biggest cake possible and engage the local media. This weekend, Ketley Boys Brigade ticked off all of these challenges when they held a celebratory party at Ketley Methodist Church.
John Smith, who has served as a volunteer with the Boys Brigade for almost 30 years, and Luke, Brigade Captain, welcomed Telford MP, Lucy Allan to their Big 100 Birthday Party, showing her their progress to date on the 100 challenges they are tackling.
Lucy Allan MP said: “I was so pleased to meet up again with Ketley Boys Brigade. They do such good work with local young people (boys and girls) engaging them in the community and going on amazing adventures. Young members make firm friends and learn vital life skills. I particularly want to pay tribute to John Smith for his many years of service and to Luke the Brigade Captain for all his achievements. I was very touched to receive a lovely bouquet of flowers from the youngest member and to see the way that ‘old boys’ come back to help out.”
