Ironbridge

Following the recent cold weather, the Department for Work and Pensions have issued an alert in Telford, ensuring that eligible households will receive a £25 payment towards the cost of their heating bills.

Eligible households include those who are in receipt of:

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit
  • Support for Mortgage Interest

To trigger the payments, the average temperature at a specified weather station must be recorded as, or forecast to be, 0°C or below for seven consecutive days. In Telford, the alert was triggered at Shawbury Weather Station on 8/2/2021 for the period 7/2/2021 - 13/2/2021.

As a result £25 will be paid to eligible residents within Telford constituency with postcodes beginning: TF1, TF2, TF3, TF4, TF7, TF8, TF11 and TF12.

The DWP’s Cold Weather Payment pages provide further information for claimants. The DWP also publishes statistics on the current Cold Weather Payment season here.

Lucy Allan MP said:

"It is important to remember that during periods of cold weather, many households may have significant pressures on their household budget due to increased heating costs. I am pleased to have been informed that the Department for Work and Pensions has activated cold weather payments across Telford to ensure that all those who require support with their bills will receive it. The payments make a massive difference to many families in Telford and I am pleased to see proactive Government support for the increased cost of living."
