Edward Timpson MP, Minister for Children and Families, visited Holmer Lake Primary School in Brookside today with Telford’s Parliamentary Candidate Lucy Allan.
The Minister visited the school to see the work that a group of Year 4 to Year 6 children have been doing to keep children safe, in a project called Team Safeguarding Voice (TSV). A group of children presented the Minister with their TSV annual report highlighting their key achievements, which included running a conference for all schools in the borough of Telford & Wrekin, receiving an award from Adrienne Katz (from the Bullying Intervention Group) for their anti bullying work, and designing a leaflet on the dangers of sexting. The children also outlined what they would like to see happen next with TSV including helping other schools adopt the same model and learning more about extremism in schools and homophobic bullying.
Lucy Allan, who is a Governor at the school, said: “The pupils at Holmer Lake wanted the Minister to hear about what they have achieved in helping other children understand different forms of abuse, what to do and who to talk to."
“Team Safeguarding Voice is a hugely innovative scheme that empowers children to help themselves and other children stay safe. The Minister was really impressed with how articulate and confident the children were and with the tremendous work TSV has done. Holmer Lake has an inspirational leadership team and is delivering fantastic results for local children."
