Local MP gets historical tour of Jackfield Tile Factory

This week, Telford’s MP, Lucy Allan was given a tour of the Craven Dunnill tile factory based in Jackfield, Telford.

Craven Dunnill & Co. Ltd was founded by Henry Powell Dunnill in 1872 in Jackfield, Shropshire and is the oldest surviving purpose built tile factory in the world.

Like many new towns, over its 50 year history, Telford has suffered from high rates of unemployment, from being hard hit by all national recessions. These rates have been consistently higher than the national average, sometimes as much as twice as high, reaching over 22% at its highest.
