Lucy Allan, Telford’s Parliamentary Candidate, opened a new, cutting-edge doctor’s surgery in Malinslee.
Lucy was shown around the £3.5million Malinslee Medical and Dental Practice by the owner, local GP Dr Shailendra Allen.
The state-of-the-art facility, which currently has 4500 patients, has ready to go facility for Medical X-ray and Ultrasound.
It also has a minor surgery theatre that will be able to provide various surgical procedures, making it one of the most well-equipped medical centres in the county.
Lucy Allan said: “Malinslee Medical Practice is fantastic, and it’s great that Telford now has this state-of-the-art health practice. This is about healthcare for the future, providing a whole range of care close to home.
“The future of the NHS is all about making healthcare as local and user-focused as possible. One medical centre like this can support a population of 15,000 people, who can get all manner of treatments near home without having to go to the hospital.”
“Dr Allen and his team go above and beyond for their patients and their ambition to get this cutting edge centre for Malinslee is inspiring.”
Dr Shailendra Allen said: “I’m proud to unveil my new surgery and I’m glad that Lucy came to open it.
“She has done so much to campaign for better healthcare in Telford that it made perfect sense to show her around the centre.
“Telford & Wrekin Council proposed this centre as part of Malinslee’s regeneration when the Conservative group was in charge, but when Labour took over they nearly stopped the plans.
“Dr Gakhal and I had to fight to get this built, putting in our own money, but it was more than worth it. Patients already love it and I always say that this isn’t my surgery – it belongs to the local community and it gives me pleasure to serve the community.
“We had £800,000 funding from the local Clinical Commissioning Group, but the rest of the money we had to find ourselves. I’m very pleased with what we’ve achieved here.”
