Telford MP, Lucy Allan has welcomed the continued roll out of super-fast broadband that now sees 1,000 additional households and businesses in Dawley and Oakengates able to benefit from this high speed service.
The roll out is part of a £5.6 million programme jointly funded by Telford & Wrekin Council (£2M), Broadband Delivery UK, part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (£2M), and BT (£1.6M). It will enable more than 9,300 residents and businesses that cannot currently access faster fibre broadband to be able to do so. When the project finishes at the end of 2017 and is combined with the private sector’s programmes 98% of homes and business in the Borough will be able to access super-fast broadband.
Commenting on the roll out, Lucy said: “I’m delighted to see this stage of the rollout completed. Superfast broadband is vital is Telford’s future economic growth. As the internet plays a bigger role in our lives it is only right that we should have the fast access needed to utilise this service to its maximum.
“It is important to remember the Prime Minister has put access to broadband on the same footings as water and electricity as a Universal Service Obligation and this roll out will help meet that obligation.”
