Lucy Allan MP has welcomed Telford & Wrekin Council’s Local Plan, which means that plans for new housing in the borough will be reduced by more than 40%.
The MP made protecting green spaces one of her top election pledges in her Six-Point plan for Telford. She was concerned about adequate infrastructure and protecting the town’s identity.
Lucy Allan MP said: “I am delighted to see the Council revise downwards their plan for new build homes so significantly.
“This is a successful outcome for my campaign to save Telford’s green spaces.
“The scope of house building originally set out in the Council’s first ‘Shaping Places’ plan was simply too much for the town.
“The reduced plan will help to preserve the town’s unique mix of rural and urban areas and protect the green spaces that shape Telford’s identity.
“New houses are necessary for Telford to grow as a town, but they must be built responsibly and with respect to the wishes and needs of existing residents.
“A common-sense approach to planning is needed to ensure Telford continues to grow in a sustainable way."
