Lucy Allan MP is backing a Telford resident who has been nominated for a major national award for her work getting senior citizens online.
Anne-Marie Davies, of Telford, has been nominated for the Silver Surfer award by TalkTalk as part of their Digital Heroes scheme, with the Telford Senior Citizens Forum standing to win £5,000 if she wins.
Lucy Allan MP said: "The Telford Senior Citizens forum does fantastic work getting older people online and tech-savvy.
"Technology can be a life-line to elderly people and allow them to stay n touch with relatives and friends from all over the world.
"There are also services that are only accessible online, or are more easily accessed digitally, like online banking and some council services
"Making the internet accessible to everyone is a big task and digital champions like Mrs Davies play a key role in helping everyone get connected.
"I would urge everyone in Telford to get behind her and cast their vote."
In her nomination on the awards website, Anne-Marie Davies says: "I co-ordinate a group of volunteers who provide 1:1 help enabling housebound and older people learn how to use IT equipment and connect safely to the internet. I also co-ordinate 3 drop-in sessions a week for those who already know a little, but want to learn more. This is enabling older people who have never used IT before to remain more independent, stay in contact with friends and family, learn more about hobbies or favourite topics and take advantage of all that the worldwide web has to offer."
