Lucy Allan MP has met with Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to make the case for a new Critical Care Unit to be built at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital, effectively turning the site into a ‘Super Hospital’.
The Telford MP has long called for the ‘Super Hospital’, with a new Critical Care Unit, dealing with the most serious life threatening cases, alongside walk-in urgent care centres, dealing with the majority of standard accident and emergency cases.
Lucy Allan MP said: “I have made the case to the Secretary of State that Telford's Princess Royal needs the new Critical Care Unit to ensure the best possible care for the area.
“Telford is the fastest growing town in the West Midlands and has the greatest healthcare need. It's vital for Telford's future that we have the best emergency care is we continue to grow. People moving here need to that know that they will be able to get emergency care quickly if they need it.
“There is also significant health inequality between Telford and the rest of Shropshire. Telford has pockets of deprivation: that leads to a greater need for healthcare services than our closest neighbours. The local Clinical Commission Group is shortly to make an announcement on this issue and I urge them to consider the compelling arguments for bringing the new unit to Telford."
